Spot reserved…
Do you have a favourite place to sit? This is mine – a little unconventional I know, but it’s all mine.
When my brother, sister & I were growing up there was definitely an IT spot.
It was the cane chair closest to the TV. The chair was awfully uncomfortable & had exposed nails that caught on your clothes & your hair. BUT… it had tier 1 status because in the days before remotes arms reach was vitally important.
It was only your spot until you had to get up to go to the loo or grab a gingernut biscuit from the bickie barrel. As soon as you took your first step someone was waiting to nab the “top spot”. These chair wars usually ended in tears & a bit of blood. So, genius children that we were we came up with “spot reserved”. If you declared this prior to leaving your seat no-one could assume your position & it was a no go zone until you returned. I love the politics between siblings!
No-one wants my spot now – but just for old time’s sake…”spot reserved”. Don’t anybody pinch my patch of floor (or my pretty drink).

Funny how things change as we grow. Now, you let me share your ‘spot’ when I am down south FREEZING my butt off. I will be reserving that spot for my next visit – lord knows I’ll need it, even though it will be the middle of summer

Oh yes.. mine is a red foot stool in front of our open fire… with a nice bottle of wine.. and ideally Gordon Ramsay (i cover my eyes and ears when he starts spitting venom!) or Project Runway. We had a beanbag each when we were little to solve those disputes. Mine was purple vinyl. You woulda liked it!

I’m a floor sitter too and preferably in front of the heater when it’s chilly. That’s always been my spot, I even fought of my 5 other siblings and countless housemates for it.

Jo you reading here? Seem to remember you pointing out I had only 3 spots. Shower, heater, TV and maybe your place for for a BBQ on Sunday arvo.

I love your cosy spot! I often have to work of an evening making stuff, so I’ve created a nook in my studio with a comfy chair and a worktable next to the fire and in front of the telly – I’m currently addicted to Gordon like Pip, also the IT Crowd, Ladette to Lady, Wifs Swap, The Bill, Ashes to Ashes, Hotel Babylon … British telly is the best! When we were little my two sisters and I used to fight over the rug next to the gas fire in front of the telly, but the best spot (armchair within arm’s reach of the TV) was always reserved for our dad! When I was little, sitting on my dad’s knee watching telly in that chair was my favourite place of all!

I remember the heater well C.T. The smell of burnt flesh long after you had left the room!!!! I don’t remember if anyone reserved a spot on the old brown couch. Maybe just Jodie and B to mime Madonna songs…..

This is kinda not even related but my older sister always finished her ice cream first and then walked around to everyone else saying ‘donations to the poor’ with her bowl out.
See nothing to do with spots. But you reminded me of it…
