Eeeek…I taught the big girl to granny square. She’s really, really good. Her granny square is lovely & square & even.

Pt Lonsdale is home to a beautiful shop called Wildpurl so the lucky girl learned to crochet using Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino. This was absolutely the perfect yarn for a small person to learn with. It doesn’t separate at all.

Our break was really lovely.

The pace at Lonsdale is super slow & the only planned activities for the day are the run, coffee & the dog beach.

I devoted my down time to crochet & was feeling quite pleased with my efforts until I laid these squares & the 21 I had at home out & realised that I’m probably only half way to my goal. I really think that I’m going to have to revise the original plan & just make it big enough to drape across the foot of the bed. That would be OK wouldn’t it?

love your header! & love pt lonsdale – it is not too far from me, but i have yet to look at wildpurl.

downscaling is perfectly fine. no guilt! 6 years ago i started a crochet tablecloth with fine white cotton (*sp!!thtk@#) for a friends wedding gift. it now measures not quite 60 cm square with 4 extra squares a quarter of that size. 1 year ago i gave up and appliqued them to a large piece of creamy linen with a few thrifted doilys. it will be a quilt. i looked at it today, took a photo – will post it later this week probably!

I can relate…mine has gone from QUEEN size, to single to foot warmer. If I keep it up I’ll have a mitten.

Glad to hear you had a nice break. Its so lovely that your passing on your skills to you daughter. i have given up on learning to crochet. Though I would love a crochet rug I don’t think I’d get past the first square. Yours looks great!.

oh, I’m loving your granny squares – they look fantastic. I don’t know what’s wrong with me, I’ve tried every kind of tutorial, but I just can’t make them! But you’ve inspired me to have another go…..I’ve just discovered your blog by the way, and I love it!

nothing wrong with downsizing a piece of work, but maybe get your daughter to help with the squares and you wouldn’t have to? Something that 2 members of the family both worked on :)

Love the brown squares! This blanket will be divine.

Nice work with the big girl too. I learnt knitting and sewing and other crafty ways from my mum. There were times when I wasnt in to it as much as others but Im sure glad she tried and passed on her knowledge to me. I have definitely been greatful of this over the past few years as I’ve found my crafty ways again.

LOVE the new header, it totally rocks!!

How lovely to have another crocheter in the family. I think you should enlist her help to finish your rug, too! (I know what you mean about the downscaling … my “big” blanket is rapidly becoming a knee rug!)

I just love the colours that you are using. The squares are beautiful.

I guess my feeling is that a finished project is better than a WIP, even if it doesn’t match your original intention!

Oh, I love to crochet. Never picked up the knack of knitting, but I could crochet for days.

Oh my. My darling mother tried to teach me how to crochet as well. Hmmmm, my square was not even or square! Perhaps becuase my mother is left handed and I am right handed? Perhaps becuase your daughter has more skill?! :)

PS. Sometimes I think it is best to take a break from a big project like this and come back to it later.
