The low down on commenting…
I use JS Kit comments on kootoyoo.
I know that a few people have problems with JS Kit & have had trouble with their service. Personally, I have had positive dealings with JS Kit support & am keen to continue with this system of commenting. Mainly because I think that the blogger comment system is less than ideal.
Why I like it…
-I like that I have the option/ability to respond to each comment.
-I like that if used to full advantage I can click directly to a commenters site.
-It’s made me engage more with the folks that do leave comments on this site & afterall that’s what it’s all about eh?
I think that JS Kit is most beneficial if you actually sign up to it. It doesn’t cost anything to register with JS Kit. They have a strict privacy policy & the site owner (me) doesn’t actually have access to your email address…
-Then you have the option to receive my responses (or those of other commenters via email).
-You can add a number of sites where people can visit you. It actually lists the name of the site so that people know where they are heading.
There are other options for logging in to leave a comment which are all fine but you may not see the benefits that I describe above.
Anyway, I just thought that I would include a how to as it seems a few people are stumped &/or confused when it comes to commenting using JS Kit.
…
I’ve said something or shown something that you’d like to make a comment about…
Click “comment”
This box will pop up. If you want to comment as a guest (& you don’t have a blog) that’s fine…just try to remember to type your name in the guest box so I know your name.
<
OR
you can sign in using one of the following in the drop down under the “From”
Here’s where you would choose “Blogger” or “my other site” or “JS Kit” . If you choose “Blogger” or “my other site”, you still need to type your name where it currently says “Guest”. You can also choose to upload an avatar but you won’t receive email responses.
To get the most out of your comment…
sign up to JS Kit (you only need to do this once)
If you do that your comment will look like this. I know it’s Tania from Myrtle & Eunice before I even click. I recognise her icon (& I’m pretty glad she’s stopped by). I can hover my mouse over Tania’s name & I’ve got the option to visit her on her site if I like. You know I’m gunna because I’m loving what she’s got to say & she’s made it super easy for me. You should probably go & visit her too. She’s good!
If you sign up to JS Kit you also have the option to change your avatar from your “comment box”.
I hope this was helpful & I hope it might make commenting on kootoyoo a more valuable/fun experience.
Thanks for stopping by.

Aha! My avatar has appeared! When I finally got through to signing up (after it stalling on me over and over several different tries/days), the avatar wouldn't appear. Now I'm in business!

Hey Kirsty thanks for this – I got my ass into gear and finally added my avatar! I have used JS kit for a little while now and I do like the way it allows me to respond to comments in a more immediate, conversational sense. That said I sometimes click on to my blog to see if there are any comments and it very often says zero but then when I click on the actual comments bit there may be five or so (woo hoo!) – does that happen to you?

Given I am renowned for my ability to break computers and the like, it is sheer flukery that I managed to get that JS Kit bit right. And shucks, thanks for saying nice things – I've come over a vibrant shade of red.

Thanks for the tips. Always nice to have step by step instructions, I need those at times.

You're not dumb at all. Just choose "add another site" when you go to comment & insert your site address (make sure you put the http:// in front).
Then if you hover over your "avatar space" it should give you the pencil option where you can add an avatar.

Thanks Liesl. I think they have some kinks still to iron out with the transition to Echo but I think it's worth riding the bumps.

On the contrary…I know when to break out the bubbles.
Kirsty

Yes…apparently there is a known issue with that – I think there are a few teething problems with the transition to Echo but I agree it just feels friendlier & open. Super excited that you signed up with your blogger & I can see your avatar! Hooray for that.

Hi Muriel
I'm hoping that the link widget will be up again tomorrow. This comment
system isn't new…it's the one I've been using for most of this year.
See you for my creative space tomorrow.

Thank you for these instructions Kirsty. I have been having so much trouble trying to use JS-Kit. I have just followed your instructions carefully and I am hoping that when I post this that it will all come together…

Oh bother. That didn't work. When I try to log in to JS-Kit everything gets wiped. And my avatar just disappears after loading.
I'll have to give up again for now… Oh well.

Hi Kirsty,
I use JS Kit as well – used to use it on my personal blog but grew tired of the lag in loading the comments and felt it slowed down my site in general. Also think people had trouble using the system. I swore I wouldn't use it on my new blog. However, when I started my new blog I found I really missed not being able to reply directly to a comment. (Also missed having Comment Luv – awesome plug-in, you might like to check it out!) Anyways so I just installed it on my new blog. Already a little frustrated with Echo being a bit buggy but I hope, as you do, that these things will get sorted out. I think people find it a little difficult at first but hopefully we can start an Echo tidalwave and soon everyone will be using it! If it's ok with you I'd like to link to this post in case any of my visitors need help with Echo.
Just wanted to add my few thoughts on it! Thanks for helping out all the JS Kit-ers!
