Sampler Progress

Things are progressing pretty well with the sampler.

Some of these will certainly be added to my stitching “vocab”.

I love…
up & down blanket stitch
pekinese stitch
feather stitch
chevron stitch
& open cretan stitch

with practice I think I’ll like…
cable chain
knotted buttonhole

This certainly has been slow going. I was unpicking lots & then of course realised that isn’t really the aim of the exercise. This isn’t about perfect it’s about practice.

It's so pretty Kirsty – make sure you frame it yes? In a nice wooden frame? I would!

I know you've absolutely inpsired me. I borrowed a book of embroidery stitches from the library to look into what's out there a little more.

Looking good! I'm just sitting down with a stitch dictionary to try out some new stitches on my sampler, so this was good inspiration!

This is awesome! Being new to the world of embroidery this is such a helpful "visual dictionary". I have been searching some embroidery books here (Austin, TX) in the craft stores but have better luck looking on line- more stitch related info rather than pattern related.
Thank you so much for this post- I love 'fern'!

My favourite is feather – you're very brave to try out new stitches. I'm a slow and steady backstitcher. I really should branch out but I'm a bit nervous. Even my backstitch is average so I'm not sure how I'd go with those fancy stitches!

Oh this is so beautiful and inspiring! I have always wanted to learn how to stitch nicely. Perhaps I will give it a try. They will look so beautiful in a frame.

is it possible to choose a favorite? i think it depends on what embroidery your up to. However I do loove french knots and all chain stitches.

Oh, I love them all!! But if I have to choose, I would probably stitch something with French knots and Feather! Have fun stitching!

I live fern too. I did my first blanket, backstitch and satin stitch on the weekend (on a softie) and absolutely fell in love with blanket stitch. The eyes on the softie were meant to be french notes but they wouldn't knot? Just kept sliding through. Think I need an actual person to show me!

Love the blue against the white btw

The knotted buttonhole is a killer. I have to check the book every single stitch. I think I have managed six without stuffing up….more practise needed !
Your sample is awesome Miss K.

What a great sampler. You are so good at all the stitches. I am really struggling to get the hang of stem stitch. It just doesn't look right. Any thoughts/suggestions?
