Noticing - my creative space...

Holding my place

& how quickly a "technique" employed out of necessity becomes a habit. It was tricky to find my chain stitches with the two strands of mohair & using the big hook. So I started marking. Now I'm marking my third chain either for back & forth or in the round. Regardless of hook & yarn size. It makes things easier for me & we all know I LOVE a rule.

I'm holidaying at the moment (& you could be too enter Mikes Crafty Getaway). I'm enjoying taking stuff in, spending time unplugged & stopping to check things out. Noticing.

Noticed elsewhere:
hand quilting - just lovely.

Have a fabulously creative day.

Don't forget to pop in & add your link if you're playing along this week.

Because I am a self taught, no patterns kind of crocheter I mark the point I go up a round in my round crocheting with a little safety pin. It helps me keep track of where to start increasing or decreasing stitches.

markers make it so much easier. I picked some little plastic ones up from prudence mapstone when she was here in townsville. I think they're clover not sure but easier than using yarn. nothing like a break away, enjoy.

Hope you are enjoying your holiday. Noticing is the best thing to do on holidays, makes you step back and think about things. I should challenge myself to do it at home more. Thanks for the inspiration. :)

Now that there is pure yarn PORN Kirsty! Gorgeous yarn. Loving your noticing too. I'm guessing you've read "How to Be an Explorer of the World"? Great little book to adults (and the young'uns) starting to "notice" things ...

That's a good idea - I find couting stitches in crochet really hard. School holidays start here next week - can't wait. Hope you enjoy the rest of yours.

What a pretty color!

When I get in the habit of marking stitches, it's very handy. But I often skip it and endure the frustration that results. :-/

I think Patons must be selling huge amounts of wilderness at the moment!!

I like the idea of marking every third (or so) chain, especially for foundation chains. I recently made a dishcloth that needed a dc and three tc's in the same stitch every 4 stitches - having those stitches pre-marked would have made that first row a lot less fraught!!

julie k said...

I am loving your photos, especially the green one from the other day.

Sally said...

Yes... me thinks it is time that I stepped up and became more pre-occupied with technique and rules. Thanks for sharing this gem.

I have been 'noticing' how quickly my time flies by when I am trying to finish something.
I have a spare 'lobster clasp' that I use to mark my stitches. It's quite effective and easy to move as you go round.
