The perfect bag revisited…

August 13, 2010 37 Comments by Kirsty

The Bag

Another of my perfect bags made for a lovely mate.

Slouch Zip

I was determined to get the zip right this time. I went super slow, used HEAPS of pins & checked & double checked all the way along.

Stitching detail

I’m really chuffed with the wonky outline stitchery.  I think it gives the already special vintage fabric just a little lift.

Everything used in the construction of the bag was purchased from op shops/thrift stores along the way.

I promised myself that the next time I made this bag it would be for me.  I’m determined but on delay.  I have quite a few “must finishes” on the list before I’ll get to it.

Ack! I LOVE IT! Love the browns, love the slouchiness and the blue zipper? A stroke of genius! I'd have never thought of that in a million years and it's perfect.

i think it looks amazing kirsty. love the whole textural colour pattern thing that it has going. the lucky recipient is bound to love it. the zip looks very professionally done. i often hand baste a zip in to begin with, it also gives a good result and is surprisingly quick

That is fantastic Kirsty! I have had a few sling type bags in my time, they are so easy to lug about!

I love it, and I'm sure your friend will too. :)

Oh I love it. When I was learning the zip- recently I found a tutorial that said to use a gluestick to stick it down instead of pins, it is what I use now and it is great.

I never think to use stitching on fabric like that- this has really inspired me.

Love this bag and the stitchery is fabulous Kirsty. It's really hard coming up with a bag shape that works well, isn't it? I'm struggling with that at the moment too. Fabulous job – your friend's going to love it. K

It looks fantastic!! Love the style! And oh your good adding all that detail. I tried some hand embroidery yesterday until I realised that I lacked a couple of necessary things such as an embroidery hoop and patience:)) Hope you have a great weekend!

I am currently toting my perfect bag around Salt Spring Island – it really is a great bag. Perfect size, it can hold so much but it's easy to find things inside. The zip is still fine and dandy. Love it. Make it into a pattern! I'd award you an award!
