Noticing – challenge…

January 24, 2011 10 Comments by Kirsty

I’m without a car for a couple of weeks.

I’ve noticed just how much I rely on the car.  Today I walked and caught the tram into the city with the girls for a doctor’s appointment and then rode my bike to visit my sister…I’m shattered.

Much as I love living in the leafy green suburbs (where not even a coffee is walking distance) today would have been much easier if I lived in Fitzroy.

This map is from an old street directory picked up at the Camberwell market yesterday – so good!

Er. A suggestion. Best lay off that Big Run malarkey for a coupla weeks?

You never realise how much you rely on something until after it is gone. I learnt the same lesson with my slice and dice activities.

Hope the wheels are back soon xx

That map is just fantastic – great find! I don't drive and hence shank's pony is my normal daily fare… you get used to it but summers are hard ;) Hope you get your car back soon. Kx

We get so used to too many things, car, electricity, telephone…
They make our lives easier in a world where run-run and quick-quick are the rallying cry.
It is apalling, yet the alternative would be to change style of life but would it be possible?

wow, congrats on that decision and I hope it helps you find ways of getting places in another way – hopefully not always as exhausting as this time!

I agree, a car is indispensable. But think of the positive aspect, it is good for health ! We rarely use or car to go working. So at least we are biking each day for +/- 14 km.

Ahhh, now see I'm the opposite. Put me in a car and I'm all "Slow down! You're driving too fast! What are you doing, like 40? Sheesh! Let me out, let me out LET ME OUT!!!!!!"

So really, it IS just as well I never got my licence. Just can't handle the speed.

yes, very cool. I have a thing for maps too. Bought myself a massive folio book for xmas (strictly speaking it was for both me & the fiance) full of vintage world maps, and spend a ‘sketchbook project doing maps. Don’t have any good melbourne ones like this though!
