Noticing – empathy…
I run through at least four spider webs each morning on the run.
As I peeled the sticky silk away from my eyes and mouth the other morning I thought like a spider. I thought how devastated I would be if I’d spent hours & hours creating something as beautiful as a web only to have it ruined in a second.
I’m trying to be more careful on the run now & if I can, avoid the webs & admire their beauty.
PS: If you’re not thingy about spiders you might want to have a look at the other pics I took of the Golden Orb we’ve been admiring.

I am tres “thingy” about spiders so I want be taking a closer look, but what an interesting perspective… I’ll do my bit by, uh… continuing not to run anywhere, ever.

It is all perspective, perhaps a view from a fly’s point of view and they may be cheering you

Oh, I think the same thing when I come across spider webs. I’m o.k. with them as long as they don’t come into the house
We had nicknamed this dollar coin size spider “Charlotte” her web extended every night from the roof of the car, to the corner of the garage. I love the photo of the web, beautiful.

If I ran through a spideweb I’d be screaming like a banshee!
Spiders are at the top of the list of the things that I’m scared of.

lol, I also try to avoid the stunning homes each morning. I am used to the popular hangouts now, however it’s the odd web that spans the track that takes me by surprise and I whisper a little ‘sorry’ as I pass.

Tell me about it. There’s a lot of embroidery that seems to go in to that web-making business. I’m not thingy about spiders. But I haven’t tried running my face through four of ‘em in the pre-dawn dark either. Maybe I am thingy about spiders…

I love Golden Orb Weavers. We had one last year at our place: http://alittlebitofkaos.blogspot.com/2010/04/orb-weaver.html
They are amazing in that they do so much work each evening on their webs.

I would start running with a stick and thrash them down, too scared one would bite me if I ran into it!

I love the thought and will try to keep it in mind next time I see a web.
We faced something similar just yesterday. We spend a good amount of time cursing the many gophers that populate our yard. However yesterday, during the storm one waddled up onto our porch practically begging for help. I was wary, but after he ate some cheese and some lettuce, I sat down near him. Next thing I knew, he hobbled over and sat, sort of nestling himself in my legs. I picked him up (which is how I figured out he was in fact a he) and put him in a box with a blankie until the storm let up and then let him waddle off back into the grass. I won’t curse them as much when I mow the lawn anymore, they are my friends.

i have been running head first into them too. i think all this humidity and rain equals a surge in the spider population. it is a bit sad and a lot creepy

We too have some beautiful Orb spiders in our garden…I am not a spider lover but you have to admire their fantastic works of art.

Oh – we are loving spiders on the northern outskirts at the moment. A huge Golden Orb web in the backyard – I can see her clearly from my room and often stop to wonder in amazement at her weaving skills. And on the weekend we found two St Andrew’s Cross spiders as well as some egg pods – we haven’t seen them for about a year but are so pleased they are back. Lovely!

We have some of those golden orb spiders at the moment – they are pretty amazing I admit. As long as they stay well away from me.
I don’t run through spider webs but only because I’d be screaming if I did.

Thank you for the link to your spider pictures. My daughter likes spiders, and will help her dad carry garden spiders back out to the garden (while I look on calmly as long as I don’t have to touch them…), but she is almost too empathic when it comes to broken webs…
