My creative space…

March 10, 2011 67 Comments by Kirsty

I’m not a quilter…of any sort.

I’ve banged on before about my inability to make decisions about colour.  Quilts seem to me to be all about colour & then they go & throw pattern into the mix…yikes.

I like a quilt that is unexpected & my very favourite maker of unexpected quilts is Kate.  She has a flair for both colour & pattern.  Her choices are always surprising & delightful…just as a quilt should be in my opinion.

Lovely Kate has put together a beautiful modern quilt pattern which made me want to have a crack.  Her own version is the perfect mix of fabrics which makes it look much more casually thrown together than it actually is.

It was with great enthusiasm that I hacked into the collection of pink pillowcases & I’m chuffed with the result (so far).

The quilt pattern is written in a friendly, you can do it style & I found it super easy to follow.  I’ve made up all my blocks & chopped them up.  Now I need to arrange & rearrange to get just the right amount of “unexpected”.

You can pick up your very own one flew over quilt pattern here.

Do pop in & add your link if you’re playing along this week.

I’m not a quilter either, and yet I’m also in the middle of making a quilt!
All I can say is thank goodness for bloggy friends who can lend a hand with these things.

Kate made me come over all quilty inspired too. And its BABY sized. Bit off more than I could chew, I did, with the crafting of a monster kingsize quilt top. That one is destined to take up residence in the same cupboard as your brown grannies…

I’ve only ever done one quilt in my life and I have another in pieces in the sewing room. You’ve inspired me to revisit it! May just be fodder for next week’s Creative Space. :)

I’m sure your pink quilt will be lovely! Can’t wait to see photos!

Choosing fabric always throws me. It takes me hours and hours to decide, and that’s only for small projects, not even something as complicated as a quilt.

Very exciting! I love the idea of making a quilt, but I don’t feel I’m very good at putting colors and patterns together, nor do I have the attention span for larger-format work. :-/

Well, that makes a lot of us non-quilters making quilts of late! I’m just about to embark on one and my pattern is yet to be confirmed so Kate’s gorgeous pattern is certainly on my short list. So lovely. I’m sure yours will be gorgeous too Kirsty.

Quilts seem impossible to me… but then I also like the ones that don’t have a lot of colour in them. They are beautiful.

I am a bit of a ‘dodgy’ My Creative Spacer again today. But on Thursdays I’m featuring a lovely Clever Clogs Wearer and I would like to share their story with your audience as well… if you don’t mind, K! x

Are you kidding? Your instincts have driven you to a STUNNING collection of colour and texture.
Actually, the first thought that popped into my head when my eyes landed on your pink pillowcase collection was that it resembled a very delicate, decadent French dessert… which probably says more about my sweet tooth, come to think of it…

It’s funny, I have a similar fear about quilting (and my mum’s a quilter), I’m scared of the whole pattern mixing bit. Well that, and sewing straight lines… I love the look of that quilt pattern though, maybe I’ll feel brave enough to try it myself.

Oh, and I just love the new linky system – it’s great having the thumbnails!

I enjoy quilting as long as everything matchs. Last one was a baby blanket, one for our little niece, one for our Etsy shop. Last week, when I saw with my own eyes, how the one for our little niece looks like after several washings and how it looks like after coming out of the dryer I’m so happy! Nothing can beat a quilt’s beautiness! I also like the fact that cotton has never replaced by polyester when it comes to quilts.
