Setting up…

March 11, 2011 19 Comments by Kirsty

Proof!  It really is all about the process for me.

By far the most exciting part of me making a quilt (yes, the second in as many days) is the preparation of the space.

I’ve dragged the old office chair over to the machine so that I can swivel between machine & waist high ironing board & then back to the machine.

Please note the essentials…rules (you know I love them), coffee & the phone in case emergency quilty calls are required.

Have a cracker weekend all.

my set up was similar, piles of the precut fabrics with a sticky note for what letter it was, cup of tea, phone and off I go. Lucky I have a big dining table, that thing took space. And I didnt iron.

By the way – am liking that rosey barkclothy looking fabric….

Oooh the fabric choices – divine.

Loving the swivel action – and the waist-high ironing board – bloody brilliant plan.

    Have fun quilting Kirsty!

Wonderful! I wish I’d thought of the waist-high iron idea. I do it for ironing in front of the TV, but had never thought of it for quilting.

I find your reflections on ‘the process’ to be very inspirational, K. I am trying to learn to slow down and appreciate the journey more. It’s difficult, but I’ll get there! x

I love the fabrics, and the setup – I always get a bit annoyed switching between machine and iron, and this is a great solution!

How very pleasing. My workoom is astonishingly tidy at the moment, but it only stays like that for about three minutes after I begin sewing…

You are one smart lady…and I am excessively embarrassed at my own lack of process!

I’ve been doing the swivel between machine and ironing board thing all week but silly me didn’t even think to use my swivel chair OR lower my ironing board to waist high. You may well consider yourself a novice quilter, but those of us who have been doing it for a little while longer can learn so much from those of you who are just starting out! Thankyou!

    And happy quilting :) .

Brilliant, that’s exactly what I do, -swiwel between desk and ironing board. Happy sewing.
