Hanger 007…

August 23, 2012 10 Comments by Kirsty

Just hanging on…

Duffle coats…VFL…meat pies…road trips…souvenir badges…

I’ve finished another hanger and it’s taken me on a little trip down memory lane. My mum purchased (at great expense) three matching duffle coats for my brother, my sister and me. They were navy blue and bought to last. I’m pretty sure we got at least five seasons out of those suckers.

During the school holidays we donned our duffle coats, packed our sausage bags in the back of the commodore and hit the road. Mum didn’t like to make plans. She just allowed the road to take us. We’d stop where Mum felt like it and stay overnight in dodgy country motels. It was ACE!

In each of these towns Mum would purchase us each a cloth badge for the sleeves of our duffles. So here we have a nod to the duffle coat, the road & to great memories too.

You can see more creativity over here.

I like to travel that way too. When we moved up here to Queensland from Canberra I took the kids on a ten day trip. We just stopped wherever we felt like on the way..did stay in some dodgy motels and funny Chinese restaurants and ate way too many meals at Maccas..but it was an experience we will never forget.

    Love the hanger series.
Love this one’s back story too.
I think Geraldton might have been the windiest place I have ever been. The trees grew sideways. But there was a spotty there to break my yarn fast so I was super happy.
    Big love. xx

have sewn all ours on our tartan picnic rug.

great story! I was a nerd and would collect badges from town I would visit. They are sewn on an old army blanket and it makes the best camping blanket ever! Love your hanger!
