Not quite the 70s | a macrame lamp…

September 4, 2012 15 Comments by Kirsty

I’ve been knotting like a woman possessed.  It’s rare that I’m so determined with the making these days but I was super keen to see the lamp “become”.

We had friends over for drinks on Saturday night and I sat at the kitchen bench all night knotting and sipping. They were not mates of the making/creating variety and they couldn’t believe I would “waste” my time on such a nonsense. They were even more horrified to learn that the lamp was actually to be a gift!

Neon doesn’t photograph too well does it? But I can assure you it’s the most neon of neon pinks. I love it because while it’s certainly a nod to macrame it looks fresh and completely modern.

Project Details:
Opped lamp shade
Ikea lamp base (already owned)
Builders twine from Bunnings
Liquid paper to paint black globe casing
Macrame square knot (for eons)

Perfection :) That’s what makes it so inspired! It reinterprets the whole genre and takes it further! Love this Kirsty. Kx
p.s. I have found that my phone captures the neon perfectly while my digital camera just cannot… weird isn’t it?

Hi Kristy, I like the lamp as a decorative piece, not as an operating lamp…
I am glad to know that other crafty people do have to deal with their non crafty aquantainces and they survive…
I always thought that I have the most non artsy ppl around me :)

I love your friends reactions! Admittedly it is like the Emperor’s New Clothes..the lamp with a lampshade that’s not really a shade..hehe! I like it though and think you’re very clever.
