I meant what I said…

Urban Island

& I said what I meant.

Today was supposed to be the day I got super excited & told you all that I had somehow(!!!) been invited to participate in the Canon Blogger Competition & was amazingly being loaned a 1D X camera for the duration of the competition. If you’re a regular reader of the blog you’d have some inkling of the level of happy dance that was going on at my place when that email came through!

As it turns out, there was some mix up with the availability of the camera…sob. I did get sent a camera to use for the competition but it’s not as good as my current click.

While I was crying into my coffee I kept thinking about the book “Horton Hatches the Egg” by Dr Seuss. Do you know it? It’s a cracker little tale about an elephant who agrees to keep an egg warm for a lazy mama bird “I won’t be long, sir. I give you my word. I’ll hurry right back. Why I’ll never be missed….” The poor elephant ends up sitting on the egg for flaming eons. Horton sits on that egg despite being out in the weather & laughed at & teased & finally moved (tree, nest & all) to the circus.

“I meant what I said & I said what I meant. An elephant’s faithful one hundred percent!”

The whole point of the Horton story is to say that I am part of the competition which is being run on Facebook. I guess it’s a popularity contest but if you’d like to swing by & check it out that would be most excellent. You can find the entries right here (voting opens at 9am).

Who knows…I might just hatch my own elephant bird!

For love…

being prepared

She got the magic quill yesterday & now has to wait for her invite to the Beta site…sometime between now & October(!!) when it opens to the world. The big girl & her mates were refreshing their screens pretty much all day yesterday. When she ventured away from her desk, I hit refresh for her.

I hate to disappoint & it seems I’ve been doing it a bit lately…I’ve been disappointing one of my very favourite real life people.

She says she likes something new each day…
She says she likes to have a cup of tea & read the paper online & kootoyoo too…
She says she’ll check out the road tripping foxies (I’ve told her she’ll love Kate) but…
She says she’d like it to be me…

I’ll try for one a day this week Boo – I love you. x

A challenge for the holidays…

7 day afghan - day 1

Let’s just gloss over the fact that I’ve been a bit slow with the making for quite some time.

Let’s just gloss over the fact that I have several thousand projects (including the brown grannies) on the go.

Let’s just gloss over the fact that I stopped in at the wool shop to check out their range for a mate.

Let’s just enjoy this promise…

Here’s another quickest of quicks.

from 7 day afghans.

It’s the perfect challenge for the holidays…I started late last night & am VERY pleased with the speed at which it’s hooking up.

The hanger challenge…

The hanger challenge

It will come as no great surprise to anybody to hear that I’ve been inspired by something I saw & read over at the house of Rummage.

I love any kind of craft that uses “waste” material. So it’s with great enthusiasm that I’m approaching my hanger challenge. I’m aiming for a hanger a day next week & thought you might be inspired too. If you think you might like to have a crack too then just join the flickr group here.

The only rule is that you must cover a wire hanger…any way you like. Please don’t cover fancy wooden ones. This is all about turning something ugly into something not ugly.

Edit: You only have to make 1 to play along but I’m aiming for 5. x

Coffee sack footstool…

I’m super excited about this footstool. I had an original plan which failed & instead of giving up I stuck with it & I think what I’ve ended up with is actually better than the initial picture in my head (& the old vinyl job too).

It was born out of necessity. The little guy had burst the brittle vinyl on one of my vintage stools. I was devastated & set about making a new cover for it.

Made from a gifted coffee sack & using the sewing machine, my crochet hook, and a needle I’ve managed to make something rather profesh & frankly something I would be willing to pay a lot of money for if I saw it in a shop. Hooray for having a crack & being able to make it myself.

I really had to hold myself back with the embellishment … l kept chanting to myself “less is more”.  Hoping I got it right.  I got the thumbs up from The Date which is massive.  His reaction to my makings usually sits somewhere around a vague nod & a grunt.  I got eye contact & a genuine “that is excellent”.
