Same same but different…

personalised tabletop portrait | kootoyoo

Not so different I guess but this one’s not all about me, me, me. It’s all about her, her, her. Framed in IKEA and ready to be hung on her salon wall. I must say, it’s kind of nice to see it printed. It’s made me think that a set for my own wall might not be such a bad idea.

Interesting how much harder it is to make these of and for other people. Remember when I made them for The Design Files? Those things took forever. It’s probably because I try harder, wanting the people they are all about to love them, see themselves, think I ‘got it’.

I KNOW I’ve got the weekly ‘me’ pics right…before I even lay them out.

Cushion 1 of 2…

Finished (I promise not to post a pic 2 of 2 as it is exactly the same)!

It’s a stinking hot Melbourne day. The wind is fierce and the mercury is soaring. It’s a good day to be inside. I think I shall spend the rest of the day on the sofa with the fan pointed directly at me.

I’ll be moving only for icy poles.

Have a wonderful weekend folks.

Pieces of my mates 2012…

It’s rolled around again … snuck up far too quickly again this year.

The creative crew all have little pieces of 2012 coming their way. I really love the reminder ornaments, it forces me to think back and remember all the good stuff, fun stuff, new stuff that’s been going on for the creative folk in my life.

Pictured here…
someone who taught herself new skills
someone who pinned like a demon & decorated accordingly
someone who worked hard
someone who got herself all bendy & hot under the collar

Hooray for them and for you all for sticking around during 2012.

I’ll see you for more of the same after the festivities are over.

It’s the little things…

“what can’t be seen”

little words…
little stitches…

I stole the words from Les Walkling.
The stitches are my own.

Those words make me want to be better, try harder, learn more…

just four little words.

I’ve attended a number of workshops with Les over the last 18 months. I was told he was the man … by people in the know. He didn’t disappoint, in fact those workshops surpassed all my expectations.

If you’re interested in the click you can find the 2013 workshop calendar here.

Project details:

Single strand embroidery floss stitched Koo style (also stolen, but from Ike Rosen)
Hotel grade sheeting
9cm x 12cm

And another thing…

Pip & I took a road trip to Tyabb a couple of weeks ago. There was so much good stuff to look at. I think you can see where I took my inspiration for the little stitched piece I’ve been working on…

You can see the other things that took our fancy at Tyabb right here.

My Creative Space…

The wishing tree…

Last week I caught up with my lovely mate Gemma. She expressed concern that maybe the plan for the tree (that the girls were less than excited about) might have been a little minimal-control-freak. So…we injected a bit of colour with the pink neon.

My beautiful sister and her kids popped in this week and the two of us sat over the kitchen table cutting feathers and catching up. The kids had a crack at making the bunting which was lovely and then we taped it all to the tree (you can grab my materials list over here).

it’s sorta kinda finished. OK so I probably need a few more fluttery feathery floaters … I’ll cut a few with a pretty drink in hand on Friday evening.

BUT I love this tree. It just seems to perfectly sum up the year that 2012 has been for me. My final folio was all about hopes and dreams. So, I’ve done a lot of word stealing this year and in the midst of all the word stealing I came across this quote which I’ve adapted for the purposes of fitting it to my wishing tree.

Throw your dreams into space like a feather, and you do not know what it will bring back, a new life, a new friend, a new love, a new country.

I hope that you and your kin have a festive season full to overflowing with the good stuff.

And another thing…

I spent time with lovely, lovely Bren this week. Be sure to snoop around her gorgeous Creative Space right here.
