They come to us all…

coloured wire | #mycreativespace

I had grand plans for the hooking of the wire but after my first attempt I’m not convinced…at all.

Perhaps the wire was too thick. I think I need to investigate something finer. This isn’t even a vaguely original idea but I was just so drawn to the little spools of colour that I felt I had to have a crack. I’m not sure I’ll persevere from here as I can’t see the wire suiting my rather tight crochet style. It’s absolutely for more organic types.

Let’s just say Koo + hook + wire = no thanks.

It’s really just a question of taste…

wrapped lampshade | #mycreativespace

I’m not sure about this one at all.

I began enthusiastically, wrapped a few rounds and then stepped back. The thing looked absolutely ghastly! I’ve persevered and now it’s done I kind of like it from a distance and the smalls think it looks great. I’m yet to be convinced. I need to sit with it a couple of days I think.

I don’t have enough of the spool knitted cord to cover the other arm of the lamp so if I do decide I can live with it I’ve no idea what to do with it’s twin. I guess I could scour the Op Shop for more beastly yarn but really…would you?

I dunno…thoughts on this one most welcome.

I spent some time with lovely Lamina a couple of weeks ago. Check that out here.

Bits & pieces…

bargello | #mycreativespace

It was a big day here today. I haven’t made as much head way as I’d hoped and I’m beginning to question the plan conceived on the run. I had decided on a grey ‘canvas’ but now I’m thinking that might be a bit heavy. Maybe I’ll make a sample and see how that works out…just thinking out loud really.

I have had out the quick unpick Most people loathe unpicking and consider the seam ripper an absolute last resort. I wonder if that’s probably because it’s associated with the making of a mistake. As I didn’t make the original stitches I’m finding the ripping of the seams quite satisfying.

And another thing…

I spent some time with Sarah from Calico and Ivy recently. She is the master of thrifted vintage goodness. You can check that out here.

Leaving nothing to the imagination…

shapely in progress | #mycreativespace

I’ve had this embroidery project on the ‘to do’ for what seems like forever. It was dreamed of, planned and even stitched in my head before I even raided the stash for supplies. The original artwork was stolen from Henri Matisse but the stitches are my own.

The laziness of the January hush has given me the time I needed to sit on the sofa watching (kind of) the teev and stitching. The piece is about A3 size so it’s a slow burn. I’m really enjoying the meditative stitches though.

In order to avoid my default teeny tiny stitches I’ve been ‘arms length stitching’. It’s perfectly haphazard for this project. There are probably got another 3 or 4 movies left to go and I’m hoping to have it finished by the end of the hols and gifted not long after.

And another thing…

I spent time with my lovely mate Shaz in her new studio. You can check that out here.

Hers, mine & ours…

over dyed bargello cushions | #mycreativespace

If you’ve spent any time at all at kootoyoo then you know I’m a sentimental sap. Just about everything I buy or make is motivated by memory.

These bargello cushions are no exception. I was lucky enough to be given these by my mum last week. They were originally worked by my dear ‘Non’.

I have so many wonderful memories of the evenings I spent curled up on Non’s couch as a kid. I, in my Non purchased jammies and Non made moccies and her in her pink velvet dressing gown. The dressing gown was quilted in silver thread and was quite the most glamorous thing I’d ever seen. She was always busy knitting and in later years stitching, and there was always crap on the teev.

I really wanted to love the cushions and not just for the fact that she made them. I tried, I really did but they needed a bit of ‘me’ to bring them out of the storage box and into the family room. The once cringe worthy cushions are now treasure forever. I’ve managed to drag them from the far reaches of my memory and my grandmother’s home into my own with just a couple of packets of dye, a pair of rubber gloves, some salt and a wooden spoon.

Chuffed.
