Toasting sangas…

I bought this cast iron sink on Ebay. I figured it would make a much cuter (& cheaper) alternative to a commercial fire pit.

Pretty confident that The Date would hate it I managed to lift & install the thing by myself & then set to work preparing my bed of Heat Beads for the jaffle iron. I think I need to invest in a bbq starter though…to avoid blackening the pretty pink enamel any further.

I had peanut butter and banana. It was every bit as good as I remembered…delicious. We’re having some mates over for toasted sangas on Friday night too – I can’t wait.

Feed sack bar stools…

We’ve had these bar stools for ages & consequently they were looking a little the worse for wear. Originally selected because of their substantial weight, they have therefore stood the test of time pretty well … amazing for something built in the last 10 – 15 years (what with planned obsolescence & all that).

Anyway, I’ve been planning a bit of an update for a LONG time & have finally got around to re-working my test stool with one of the feed sacks I bought on etsy. I’m chuffed with the way it looks & will be giving the same treatment to the remaining two bar stools.

I think that the natural colour of the calico looks much better against my kitchen bench than the gloss white ever did.

This is essentially decoupage – prooving that ye olde crafts really are the best & there is nothing new in the world.

Thanks for listening to me waffle on & have a great day.

Hills hoist vase…

Hills Hoist Vase

It’s an Australian icon – the hills hoist.

We had a hills hoist growing up & spent countless hours using it as a monkey bar, merry go round, swing, cubby house, for batting practice (with a tennis ball inside a pair of pantyhose) & a maypole.

My gorgeous brother saved me this when he & his equally gorgeous wife landscaped their backyard.

The new vase will remind me daily of a fabulous childhood.

Camera – light – action…

It’s been a fair while since I declared something “the best thing I’ve ever made”.

Not since the lawn chair has their been such making excitement.

I’ve been constructing this in my head for a few weeks but I had to wait for the op shop gods to come up with the goods so that I could actually make it.

I like the versatility…

novelty

desk

floor lamp

There’s still a little bit of work to do to make it absolutely perfect but I’m super chuffed with the “first draft”.

Just as a PS… this was constructed while we were away with the extended family. They all stared at me blankly when I showed them the finished piece. I naturally couldn’t fathom the total lack of excitement and sighed & said “& this is why I have a blog”.

There is a how to (of sorts) available here.

Something to hang it on…

All this wire coat hanger bizzo began with Nanette.

She’s one of my very favourite people on the internet. She marches to the beat of her own drum…let’s the winds blow her where they will. She inspires me with every single one of her light filled posts.

There are a few key posts that made Rummage a “go to” for me.

…the promise
fabric selections for a friendship quilt.
…when The Frenchman GAVE her the lounge room as a craft room.

She loves raw edges, organic stitches & scrounging around markets, oppies & antique shops. She’s a girl after my own heart & she’s completely won mine.

You may have guessed what’s stitched into the “in case of emergency” cross…yep, a private stash of dark chocolate.

I take great delight in imagining her crouched in the walk in robe with her seam ripper & melted chocolate on her cheek.

There really isn’t much to say about the hangers. I plan to post them one at a time…they’ve taken me ages & I’ve loved every minute.

Just so you know…it’s not over. I think I shall be covering hangers for a good long time yet…sorry if you get bored.

Other peoples hangers here.
