My Creative Space | the state of things…

I feel like I’ve been running around in circles for the last two weeks!

It’s a tragic state of affairs when a girl can’t keep up with her own blog let alone the other favourites around the place. I’ve been busily unpacking and arranging and rearranging and sorting storage and blah boring blah. I think that I might actually be getting somewhere.

At least the bones of the office/creative space are there and now I just need to finesse a la pinterest.

Did you notice the crochet chair & cabinet? The Date vowed that they WOULD NOT be crossing the threshold of the new bedroom. Luckily for him, there’s not room to swing a cat in the bedroom so I’ve happily recruited them to my side of the shared office.

I’m really looking forward to November! I’ve entered the month with a new (older & wiser) attitude. I am reconnecting with my creative self by way of #amonthof #mycreativespace which has kicked off today! Have you seen the activity on Twitter and Instagram? It’s been lovely being invited in to everyone’s creative spaces today. It’s matey & nice. I like it. AND…here’s a sentence I didn’t think I’d utter…

I like Facebook.
(yes I’ll wait while you pick yourself up off the the floor)

We’ve got a little #amonthof group over there which just feels like a lovely creative hug. Join in if you like – it’s here.

I wonder what the other creative spacers are up to today…let’s check that out here.

The full stop…

it's easy! just pass the needle from front to back & then from back to front. snip the ends & your done!

So, here is part one of the neonification of the bedroom of the smallest. She is beyond excited! We’ve been out to Bunnings for more supplies of neon twine & some rope too (but that’s for another day).

As we are moving the house is currently in complete chaos and so I am planning on setting up a “faux” bedroom for the purposes of showcasing the growing stash of neon. I have this vision of a this + this + this + this = a giant pink neon headache.

If you know me at all you know this kind of challenge is just EXACTLY the kind of thing that gets me excited. So, bring on the neon. I wonder if the + posts will be limited to one a week OR if I might decide that one hour sleep a night is plenty and just spend every waking minute working on the neon … we’ll see.

There are plenty more folk sharing their creative spaces over here today. AND you can see the great custom rugs and carpets I dug up AFTER I’d spent hours on the neon full stop right here.

Taking things literally…

I made a rule last year about swaps & not taking them on. I’m notoriously bad at leaving everything til the last minute. This was no exception.

I haven’t done any screen printing for eons & when you consider the company in my little swap group you’ll well understand why I didn’t even entertain the thought.

I chose instead to go with a fly screen. I found one a couple of weeks ago on hard rubbish that was fortuitously just about the size of a fat quarter. My original idea was to fill areas with silicone and have the thing behave as a true screen. Tarn talked me down off that cliff (thank heavens).

Even with great advice the pushing through of the paint was destined to fail.

In the end I have essentially stamped the fly wire onto the fabric but as the wire was old & rusty with nicks & pulls & holes & bumpy bits all over it the effect is rather more “acid wash” than I was going for. I do believe it’s an acquired taste though & maybe in moderation it’ll be OK.

Ah well…the idea was good…& I’ve sent a couple of sorry sweeteners in the post too.

Thanks Leslie for organising.
